Grade 6

 

Math:

q       The Everyday Mathematics has a web site that could be helpful to parents. Go to http://everydaymath.uchicago.edu  Through this web site parents can find the "Family Letters" (click on the top “Parents” tab, then click on “Family Letters”) which contains the answers to all "Study Link" homework.

 

Science:

There is no on-line textbook for 6th grade Science this year.

 

Social Studies:

There is no on-line textbook this year for the new TCI Geography Alive series.

 

Grade 7

 

Math: 

q       Log onto www.msmath3.net

q       Click on “Online Student Edition”

q       Enter the following access code: E8E81371DD

q       There are a lot of great resources: extra examples, practice tests, practice quizzes, vocabulary review and standardized test practice at the www.msmath3.net page.

 

Science:

q       Go to http://my.hrw.com   Log-in using your username and password.  Click on the particular science book we are using in class (we use a series of small books that are topic oriented.)  Navigate through the site to find what chapter or page you need to read.

q       Students may also check out a textbook any day after school; textbooks need to be returned before or during homeroom the following day. 

 

Social Studies:

q       The Eastern World social studies textbook is available online at: http://my.hrw.com/index.jsp. Enter your username and password provided by the Social Studies teacher.


Grade 8

Math: 

q       The Glencoe Pre-Algebra text is online at www.pre-algebra.com.  There are Lesson and Chapter resources including quizzes and tests here.  Access to the online student version of the book requires a User Name (PRALMI06) and Password (2pd7sskz).

q       Algebra or Geometry books:

o         Go to www.phschool.com

o         Click on “MATH” (left column)

o         Click on “Textbook Companion Sites” under “Student Resources”

o         Click on UCSMP (under picture of book)

o         Click on Algebra student or Geometry student

o         Go to any chapter   (There are practice tests (on left menu) which students can submit & get immediate feedback.) This is good practice for students before tests.

Science:

q       The Earth Science textbook is not password protected.  Students should go to www.classzone.com  

1.        Click on "science" under the “High School” column

2.        Click on Michigan on the map

3.        Click on “Go”. 

4.        Now, click on the picture of the Earth Science text book.  

5.        You can click on “Go to the Exploring Earth Website” or click on "Online book", choose "Student Login, "choose create an account, and register using the book's ISBN # (it tells you how to find this) to set up your own account. 

 

Social Studies:

There is no on-line textbook this year for the new TCI History Alive series.

 

Research Databases—Safe and Reliable Online Libraries

 

All subjects/grade levels:

 

Access excellent research databases through our library website: www.3fireslibrary.org.

Just select the Research Center option.  The databases are libraries of information from selected sources including newspapers, magazines, reference works, and more.  Unlike many Internet sites, the information in these subscriptions resources is 100% reliable and free from advertising.  To access these resources from home, you need the passwords.  You can use the 3fires KEY-word to open the password vault, or contact the school librarian, Mrs. Kathy Lester – via email : lesterk@howellschools.com or phone: 517-540-8395.  Here is a quick look at some of the databases available:

 

o       Grolier Online  Grolier Online provides access to three comprehensive encyclopedias for grades 3-12  as well as Lands and People – a geographical encyclopedia to research  countries or cultures.

o       CultureGrams  CultureGrams provides great information on countries and cultures including:  information of background, people, customs and courtesies, lifestyle, society and more.

o       SIRS Discoverer  A great general database for finding articles on school-related topics. All of the thousands of articles included within this site are handpicked by educators based on their educational merit, curricular relevance and age appropriateness. Search results include reading levels for each article.

o       Student Resource Center  Another general database with articles on just about every topic imaginable including some great biographical, historical, geographical, and scientific references.
